After settling into its new home built by BBC Studios and Post Production at The Bottle Yard Studios last year, it has been confirmed that the long running Channel 4 game show Deal or No Deal has been recommissioned for a 10th year in a deal struck between Channel 4 and programme makers Remarkable Television (part of Endemol UK).
The hit show, presented by Noel Edmonds, relocated to The Bottle Yard Studios from its Bristol Paintworks site in 2013, when BBC Studios and Post Production designed and built new bespoke production facilities for Endemol. The 3000 square metre unit was transformed from an empty warehouse into a fully functioning studio and post production facility, complete with audience-holding, costume and make-up areas, dressing rooms, production offices, catering area and edit suites.
The show’s latest commission will run through to the end of 2015, marking its tenth anniversary on UK television. The deal will see Remarkable Television produce 288 brand new episodes for Channel 4, bringing the total number to nearly 3,000. BBC Studios and Post Production continue as a trusted production partner for Endemol, providing technical services and crew for the multi-award-winning show.
Fiona Francombe, Site Director of The Bottle Yard Studios says: “We are delighted to have confirmation of Deal or No Deal’s recommission. The flexibility of the space we have here at The Bottle Yard Studios meant that BBC Studios and Post Production were able to build an entirely bespoke studio, which has proven to be a huge success, meeting all of the production’s needs. We love having the show on-site and its fantastic news that it will now run into its tenth year on our TV screens.”
David Conway, Acting CEO of BBC Studios and Post Production says: ““We are excited to be supporting another series of Deal or No Deal from The Bottle Yard Studios and providing fully managed studio services once more. Being able to design and build the production facilities from scratch last year, meant we could work with Remarkable Television to create facilities that were tailored to their production needs. For us as a media company, Bristol continues to be a fantastic city to work in. We have an excellent partnership with the Bottle Yard Studios and are very much open to offering bespoke, studio services to other clients from this location.”
Deal or No Deal first launched on Channel 4 in the UK in 2005. Since the show began over £39 million has been paid out in prize money to over 2,650 contestants. To date, seven people have become quarter millionaires with five women and two men winning the jackpot of £250,000. Celebrities including Joan Collins, James Corden and Louis Walsh have all played for their chosen charities. In the show’s history over 58, 000 boxes have been opened and the amount of Pilgrims to enter the studio would fill Wembley Arena twice. The show has won many prestigious accolades including two Rose D’Ors, two RTS Programme Awards, a National Television Award, TV Quick Award and a Broadcast Award.
Deal or No Deal on Channel 4 is produced by Remarkable Television, an Endemol company. The Executive Producer is Richard Hague, Series Producer is Jim Connolly and the series was commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Daytime David Sayer.
