We’re delighted to hear today’s announcement from BAFTA that CBeebies show Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures, made at The Bottle Yard Studios last year, has been nominated for a British Academy Children’s Award!
The hit show, produced by the renowned Bristol-based BBC Natural History Unit, is nominated in the ‘Preschool – Live Action’ category of the Awards, which honour the very best in children’s media.
Other shows nominated in the same category are Something Special (CBeebies Production/CBeebies), Teletubbies (DHX Worldwide Limited/CBeebies) and Topsy and Tim (Darrall Macqueen Limited/CBeebies).
Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures used more than 10,000 sq ft of studio space in The Bottle Yard Studios’ Tank House 2 to make 25 x 15 minute episodes in 2015. The production team utilised cutting edge digital CGI technology and the studios’ purpose built green screen facility to create a thrilling journey through prehistoric time. Led by Series Producer Adam Oldroyd and Production Manager Janelle Backes, the team also adopted a number of sustainable practices that reduced the production’s carbon emissions to one third of the average of other BBC programmes filmed in a studio with VT inserts.
Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures is a continuation of the successful Andy’s Wild Adventures and Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures, and sees Andy Day on another epic journey meeting more extraordinary dinosaurs and ice age beasts that once roamed our planet. It is a co commission from CBeebies in the UK and BBC Worldwide for the international CBeebies channels. It is produced by Adam Oldroyd, directed by John Miller and written by Patrick Makin, Sam Morrison, Katie Simmons and Adam Oldroyd. Jonny Keeling (BBC Natural History Unit), Michael Towner (CBeebies) and Henrietta Hurford-Jones (BBC Worldwide) are Executive Producers.
The 2016 British Academy Children’s Awards take place on Sunday 20 November at the Roundhouse, London – we wish everyone who worked on Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures the very best of luck!
