In our latest Tenant Spotlight, we hear from Tom McNally (pictured above left), Head of Regional Operations at Video Europe, which opened its new Bristol branch at The Bottle Yard Studios earlier this year.

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Tom McNally from Video Europe, we’re a broadcast and film rental company that’s been operating for over 40 years supplying equipment and services throughout the industry. Originally London based, we’ve had a regional office in Cardiff for the last six years but took the plunge in 2016 to open up a full branch here in Bristol with my colleague Julian Guillaume (pictured above right) and become Video Europe Southwest. With our camera testing area and staff knowledge/experience we’re looking to offer a full technical solution for all camera requirements, from small documentary shoots to major drama productions, all at highly competitive rates.

What do you like about being based at The Bottle Yard Studios?
Obviously there’s the fact that we’re in the middle of all the activity going on here but it’s also about the people and sense of community here. It’s a one-stop-shop for any production so being part of that is a huge plus. We always have the kettle on for anyone with a technical query and often set up a rig to come up with a solution or see how we can chat about upcoming productions and accommodate budgets etc.

How’s business?
Business is very good indeed, Video Europe Southwest is still in its infancy though, so it’s important to let people know we’re here and get the word out as much as possible. That’s one of the reasons we came here as being part of The Bottle Yard network is an invaluable asset for us that enables us to highlight all our services.

What’s your favourite thing about working in film and TV production?
Things are constantly changing in the industry from a technical point of view so there’s always something new to learn, you get to meet wonderful people and the challenges of each production ensure it’s a truly rewarding experience.
